A glimpse of rustic materials and décor through the open back doors hints at the secrets contained in this converted vehicle. But even this preview scarcely can prepare you for the beauty within.
We’re going to start our tour in the shower for a couple of reasons. First of all, this van-Ernies Surf Shack has a shower, which is already impressive. But wait until you see it …
Mind blown, right? This shower is posh. Even though I am looking right at it, I still am having a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that this is in a van.
There are so many beautiful textures at play here.
It makes sense to put extra work into the shower, considering that the owners of the van are surfers, and will get a lot of use out of it.
Looking down on the shower through the skylight gives you the best overall look at the stall.
Every detail in Ernies Surf Shack is homey, and makes you think you are in a traditional house.
A farmhouse sink is incorporated into a live edge butcher block counter beneath a window.
A tile backsplash runs beneath the window, which offers an amazing view. You can cover the sink for a seamless work space on the counter. To the right, you can see a cooktop.
Pulling back from the kitchen counter a bit, you can get a more overall view of the main section of the van. It is crazy how spacious this little place seems inside! They have actually managed to pack a fully functional kitchen, shower and bed into a truly tiny space.
Here’s an even better view of the main section of Ernies Surf Shack! On the left across from the kitchen is seating. Seriously, I am blown away by what you can fit in a regular van!
As tiny as this kitchen is, it even features an oven.
I’m not entirely sure what this feature is—a cutting board, I think, to serve as an extension of the counter space? Anyway, it’s cool.
A lot of storage has been fitted under the counter.
This bottom drawer is especially for storing wine bottles.
There are a ton of impressive utilities in this caravan, including zoned lighting, 520w solar panels, a solar mppt charger, a Mains charger, a Victron inverter, a splitcharge system, WiFi and a booster, and more.
Utilities have been artfully blended in with the rest of the interior so that they do not look out of place or disrupt the rustic ambiance.
The little decorative touches together with the rustic materials are what make this place magical.
Even the light fixtures are atmospheric.
The bedroom can be closed off to the rest of the home when desired.
The colors and textures in this home are so beautifully coordinated. Every little detail adds to the whole.
Every element is worth a close look!
Blue roses are sometimes associated with unreachable, impossible dreams. How appropriate to find one here, in a tiny living dream so beautifully realized you might have imagined it was impossible.
The beach theme as well as the rustic vibes are both expressed through the signage on the wall reading, “A little sand between the toes always takes away the woes.”
This is what the bedroom is like. I had pictured that the bed would be smaller, and part of me still can’t wrap my head around it. I live in a full size motorhome, and my bedroom frankly isn’t much larger than this, if it is at all. It’s amazing that this fits in here!
The only thing I feel like this van could use more of is storage spaces that aren’t part of the kitchen. But hey—you can’t have everything, and this van has almost everything.
I love how every detail of the van is completely personalized. It must be so cool to live in a place which so fully expresses what one loves.
Check it out—there is even a mini-fridge in here. That makes this kitchen fully functional in every way for fulltime living.
A lot of love has gone into crafting this place.
This surfboard isn’t decorative—at least not exclusively. It is also a door that leads to the toilet!
The toilet is, of course, a composting model. I love this little bathroom, which I feel is oddly enhanced by its small size. Why? Maybe because it reminds me of the types of cramped toilet facilities one often encounters at the beach. It’s just cleaner, brighter, and super pretty!
I still can’t get over this kitchen. There are tiny houses measuring close to 300 square feet that don’t have kitchens much larger than this one.
Ah hah, that is what I was looking for—some extra storage for clothing and other basics.
Beautiful mood lighting fills the van at night.
The bathroom door’s paint is coordinated with the exterior paint. The bright aqua serves as a contrast with the rustic wood tones that dominate the interior.
Take another look at the wine drawer.
The home is equipped with a UV water sterilizer.
It looks like there are different color options for the lights—or maybe this photo just came out a bit differently from the earlier one showing a more purplish hue.
Warm and cool lighting helps to define different parts of the van.
Okay, it seems there are purple and blue lights! How awesome is that?
… And green lights. Greenish light always reminds me of light underwater, so it fits well with the beach theme.
