In 2017, the KUU architects designed these three beautiful cottages in Muraste. The three units of this cottage total 77 m² (1 400 ft2) and it’s made up entirely of these small bricks called “Koda Bricks”.
Little known facts: The Koda was the first structure built by humans in Estonia. It served as both housing and shelter, but it also had more than just that one function – like how your house can be used for cooking or sleeping too.
The word “kodu” means home; while “koht” refers to any type of geographic location (i.e., town). The experience these ancient people had building from wood goes back Millennia ago when they first created a timber-built dwelling – what we know today as simply called ‘the chamber’.
The concept of the cottage is based on the archetypal Koda, which has been modernized in form and function. The cottage in Muraste consists of three Koda units – one for the sauna, one for the living room/kitchen, and one for the bedroom/bathroom.
The latter two are side by side and directly connected. Between the main house and the sauna, there is a large terrace connecting every function of the summerhouse and creating outdoor “nests” for each function. Large openings have directed the north towards the nice view of the Baltic Sea and also south to catch the sunlight. The bright interior and converging ceiling
You’ll enjoy these modern beautiful cottages in Muraste that take on classic design elements like its cuddly sofas made out of reclaimed materials which give off great texture while you soak up some sun and overlook the pristine Baltic Sea view.
The cottage is a cozy and inviting space, with its natural larch cladding giving it an earthy appeal. The sauna unit stands out thanks to the tar-oil paint Job!
