I’m really proud to share photos of my brand new, custom built, one-of-a-kind 8’x12′ tiny house vacation rental. Designed and built specifically for the homeowner by Rocky Mountain Tiny Houses in Durango, CO, and outfitted throughout with unique fixtures by the homeowner – who decorated the entire interior of the home – this tiny work of art is located in a beautifully landscaped backyard oasis less than two miles from vibrant downtown Austin, TX.
Amazing attention to detail is evident, all the way from the custom designed staircase with mini “office” tucked below to the tiny USB charging station/outlet/desk lamp (allowing guests to charge two smart phones and a laptop or notepad all in one compact location. This incredibly well designed tiny house boasts all the amenities of home with a full bathroom (including a high tech electric incinerating toilet) that closes off for privacy with a sliding barn door, a full kitchenette with refrigerator, portable cook top stove, microwave oven, Keurig coffee maker, toaster, and full set of cookware, dishes, glasses, mugs, cooking utensils, stainless steel flatware and all biodegradable soaps, shampoo/conditioner, and cleaning supplies.
Not seen in these photos is a counter top compost bucket, miniature iron and handheld vacuum for easy cleanups. Behind the portable A/C unit and clothing rod in the closet are two high quality folding chairs made of steel and wood that hang from the wall, which guests may use inside the house or bring outside to enjoy meals or refreshments on the outside porch or anywhere else in the backyard. Rather than opting for a fold-down bench or small sofa, the owner had a hanging love seat custom made for the downstairs seating area, allowing the space underneath to be used for storing suitcases. The gorgeous staircase leads up to a loft with a queen size bed (with high quality 100% cotton bedding), small nightstand, and two windows that open up for a nice evening breeze and which offer treetop views of the zen-like backyard.
Since the photos were taken, a fashionable cabinet with drawers for clothing storage has been added. It tucks nicely under the desktop and can be rolled about on its casters to use as a table top for indoor dining. Lightweight wispy cream-colored curtains have also been added to all the windows for privacy, all of which can easily be tucked aside on wall hooks to retain the open feel of the interior. A bathroom mirror that cleverly hangs freely between the light fixtures was the final touch to ensure that this tiny pad includes all the creature comforts of any “regular-sized” home …just in a more space-efficient footprint.
Implementation of a grey water recycling system is underway, which will allow all the shower and sink water used in the house to be recycled for watering the drought-tolerant native TX landscaping in the back yard. The majority of the building materials used to construct the home, as well as many of the interior fixtures, were made from reclaimed materials. The end result is an incredibly cool tiny pad that’s an eclectic mix of high tech ingenuity (wireless high speed internet is included) and green features designed to respect the environment. It always amazes me how, with a little good planning, a tiny house can contain everything a person needs and it all looks so good. Love the hanging sofa (that’s one way to get at the dust bunnies!) This is an excellent job of getting everything all together in one beautiful package (that travels; better yet!) Bravo!
Thanks so much for your feedback, Garrett. The goal from the beginning was to create a tiny home away from home that didn’t require guests to give up the amenities typically found in their own homes or hotel rooms, and I’m so pleased that this goal was accomplished…while also preserving an aesthetically pleasing environment overall.

I love all of the details in this tiny house, and have already shared it with all of my friends and family who may want to visit Austin. The yard it’s nestled in looks like a great place to spend an evening, and that’s just one more detail of this tiny house that seems incredibly well thought-out. I’ve known Denise Eissler for some years now and I’m very impressed with what she’s been up to. This tiny house is, as the article said, bespoke and hand-delivered. It is nestled away and has a place to have breakfast outside. You can look at this as a ‘home beside the home’ or an investment (automatic apartment for festivals, travelers between point A and the hypothetical, etc.). And it’s not just a mobile home. It’s a challenge: can you live bigger with less? Of course you can!
Wow, this is one of my favorites so far! Adorable. And what a great look and feel to the bathroom! My curiosity is piqued about incinerator toilets. Could this be my long-lost solution to wanting a composting toilet alternative? 😀 *crosses fingers* Well done!

Tiny homes are a fun and quirky novelty no doubt, but this one towers tinily above the rest. Just look at those pictures! Simply a stunning and beautiful getaway for those who want to enjoy a tranquil naturalistic environment that’s been gleefully embedded in Austin, TX’s historic (and ever-hip) urban East Side. I got to check it out in person at an open house and was immediately fawning over the result. As well I wished for a moment that I was a tourist or a transplant discovering Austin for the first time.
The stairwell bookcase and the unique bathroom door–which both slides AND lifts upward on a horizontal hinge–had my ass at Hellooooo. Ample shelving is appreciated and the swing-bench is clearly a wonderful touch. Looks to me like the expectations and necessities of adult life are here met with those inextinguishable longings leftover from our childhoods; adventure, escape, imaginative solitude (or two-as-one type intimacy) and having a night to dwell inside your very own treehouse retreat.
Both conceptually and aesthetically this little home has it all. A great union of form and function. A great achievement for Rocky Mountain Tiny Houses. And a passionate project for homeowner Denise Eissler here, deserving of respect, kudos, and what I imagine will be lots and lots of business.
Wonderful! One of the best I’ve seen on the web. I love the stairs (rather than a ladder). Much easier for us older hipsters. Very homey and efficient AND pleasing to the eye. Congrats to the builder and designer.

This is one of my favorite interiors I’ve seen but I hope you have better luck with Nostalgia Electronics than I have.
I love this cabin….how unique and creative. The bed appears to float above the living space downstairs. Really interested to learn about the “incinerator toilets”…..the stairs are more practical and I would imagine easier to climb than a ladder (good for us more “mature” people). Keep sharing all the ideas, I can hardly wait to have my own “tiny home” someday soon.
