Our first model is a 280sq ft house, built on a 20ft trailer. It is a proudly Canadian version of a tiny house, featuring carvings and Aboriginal art. Our roof rafters are curved in the shape of sklelten (Shuswap word for salmon), and the roofline intersects and barrels. We’ve designed it to be used longer-term as a guest house, with an open and spacious feel. You walk in and say “aaaaaahhh I could stay here for a while..!” Both ladders were lots of fun to design, and the spiralling ladder is surprisingly comfortable to use! We have a Youtube channel detailing “how-to’s” for many of the custom features – and how do-able they really are. We’re working on our next design – a more simplified version that will be easier to build, but equally beautiful!

A custom 280 square feet tiny house on wheels built by Robert & Bettina Johnson in Alkali Lake, British Columbia, Canada. More info. Esk’et Tiny House.

  1. I followed the build on youtube and I have been waiting for the tinyhouseswoon reveal. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is one the most beautifully done and elegant tiny house builds to date. This is the kind of tiny house makes a lot of people seriously considering tiny living.
Can you imagine coming in from the hike or sking to that bit of heaven?
For full time living, one could add a longer version to add closet/storage space, a rangehood vent and more shelving for the kitchen

  2. Holy cow that is gorgeous! Love the incorporation of the aboriginal art, it is so subtle but yet obvious, and that roof is a work of art. You have created a work of art! Those stairs are so beautiful and simple. Now the ladder looks cool but I wouldn’t dare use it, to scared i would come crashing down!

  3. This is fabulous. From someone who has a reputation for falling down stairs, these are my favourite in any tiny house I have seen to date from an aesthetic point of view and I believe I might even get up and down on the odd occasion without mishap.

    Job well done.

  4. That’s the first of those two stairs I’ve seen. Pretty inventive. Was the person who designed the outside and the inside the same person? Seems a little disconnected, thematically…

  5. Darn it all! Just when I think I’ve designed my dream tiny home I come across a set of pictures of another tiny home and fall in love with it. This is making it really hard for me to decide on what I want in mine. Love these pictures, it’s a gorgeous house!

  6. spectacular. agree with previous comment that for full time living add a few feet for a more functional kitchen and storage. on second thought this could be terrific for the right person(s) for full time living. Love the art. brings good juju to the home and its occupants.

  7. OK. I do love this! The door and the roof are both wonderful. I do see a disconnect between the inside and out as well—but I could easily live with that. The inside is quite beautiful. Just more modern than you might expect. I think I could do those lovely steps. However the whatever it is to get to the second loft—not a chance!

  8. I’ve been looking at quite a few of these and this is by far my favourite and think I could very easily move in and be very happy having this as my home. Absolutely wonderful and gorgeous. I love the fire and those have to be ‘the’ best steps/stairs I have seen so far in a tiny house.

    Wonderful.

  9. Any tips for making sure pipes don’t freeze in winter? What are the challenges of a tiny home in a below freezing environment, snow, ice, etc, internally and externally?

I’m starting to build a tiny home and have no idea what I’m doing so if anyone has some amazing resources or tips, please pass them on! Thanks so much tiny home world.

  10. This Esk’et TH has such gracious, beautiful lines and wonderful carvings that I could just get a cup of tea and sit outside and look at it. It really is a work of art! Beautiful.
