  1. I love it. I have a question and please forgive me as I am a Midwesterner. Why do Hawaiian residents and other Island cultures use those glass blinds that open up to the outside, then sleep under netting? Screens are less attractive, but they seem like they’d be more practical in keeping bugs out. Is it a cultural thing?

    • In Tahiti it is a cultural thing, they feel that they are closer to nature if there are no screens to keep out all the air and in fact nowhere are there screens in houses, even high end ones. So the mosquito nets are a must. In Hawaii, 99% of people have screens on the outside of their glass blinds, because we are more “Westernized”. There is a certain charm to no screens but it does let more bugs in that’s for sure.
